“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
This has always been a long term goal of our farm, to help within our local communities and put local food on local foodshelves. In October we were given the opportunity we could not ignore. If you had heard on the news, there was a commercial chicken company that filed for bankrupcy that is leaving their contracted farms and the chickens hurting. See the news article here
We had an opportunity to get as many of these chickens as we could and we did. While we can not say they are fully pasture raised, we’ve put them on pasture for a few weeks and letting them grow out and feeding them our non-gmo feed. We were able to donate so far 1500 whole chickens to surrounding food shelves and we still have some chickens remaining, plus additional chicken from our past year.
The smiles of the recipients to get fresh food for their community is a joy. This year we want to continue on with the mission and will be applying for new grants, business sponsorships and through personal donations.
If you have the ability to, please consider donating. Donations are allocated to chick purchase, feed and processing costs. Operational costs are on us to fulfill our goals. Contact Us for more details.
We are honestly doing this on a whim to help our local struggling food shelfs. I do not know if this is considered a tax deduction or have the necessary tax information to provide yet.
